Poem Number 1904
My name is misty
i am but 3
my eyes are swollen...i cannot see....i must be stupid i must be bad....what else could have made...made my daddy so mad....i wish i were better...i wish i weren't ugly...
then maybe my mummmy would still hug me....i cant speak at all...i can't do a wrong..or else i'm locked up all day long....when i awake i am along...the house is dark...my folks are home....
when my mummy does come...i'll try to be nice...so maybe i'll get just one whipping tonight...dont make a sound....i just heard a car....my daddy is back from charlie's bar...i hear him curse...
my name he calls.....i press myself...against the wall...i try to hide from his evil eyes....i'm so afraid now i'm starting to cry....he finds me weeping, he shouts ugly words..
he says it's my fault.,that he suffers at work....he slaps me and hits me, and yells at me more, i finally get free and i run for the door....he's already locked it, so i start to bawl,
so i start to bawl, he takes me and throws me against the hard wall....i fall to floor, with my bones nearly broken, and my daddy continues with more bad words spoken..."i'm sorry" i scream,
but it's now much too late, his face has been twistered into unimaginable hate...the hurt and that pain, again and again, oh please have mercy oh please let it end....and he finally stops,
and heads for the door, while i lay there motionless sprawled on the floor...my name is misty, i am but 3 and tonight my daddy murdered me :-(

I saw a girl read this poem in high school as part of a competition, that was around 1996. Then a different girl submitted it to a poetry contest and won first place even though I told the judges she hadn't written it. That really pissed me off--especially since I got second with a poem I actually wrote.

Misty Ramsey here again; TO WHOMEVER HAS ISSUES WITH ME AS THE AUTHOR..KISS MY ASS; IT'S BEEN PROVEN

Misty Ramsey here again; TO WHOMEVER HAS ISSUES WITH ME AS THE AUTHOR..KISS MY ASS; IT'S BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN. THE POEM WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN IN THE EARLY NINETIES BUT WASN'T COPYRIGHTED UNTIL 1996 WHEN I PUBLISHED IT ON MY WEBSITE. SECONDLY, IM SICK AND TIRED OF DEFENDING MY WORK BECAUSE SOMEONE STOLE IT FROM ME ORIGINALLY. SO WHATEVER..MY EMAIL IS KASSCABEL@YAHOO.COM IF ANYONE WANTS TO FURTHER DEBATE THIS OR COMMENT TO ME PERSONALLY!~ MISTY N. RAMSEY

I distinctly remember hearing this poem read in 1986- I was in fourth grade and we were having poetry readings and my friend Robyn B. read this poem. So how could it have been written in the early 90's?
-------
Since I first saw this is the fifth grade (and I graduated high school in 1990), I hardly think you are the original author. Shame on you for calling other people plahuerists when you did yourself. I STILL HAVE the original copy that was sent home with our report cards after one of our classmates was almost beaten to death. It states "author unknown". This was more than ten years before you ALLEGEDLY wrote it.
-------
I was SHOCKED to see it reported as written in 1996!!! I first read this poem in a book and memorized it word for word because one of my friends had been put in foster care due to abuse. I read it out loud to my class when I was in third grade which was 1987-88! There is NO way this girl wrote this in 1996. She is a fake!
-------
This is the one and only poem I have ever memorized. I have a copy of it myself, that I put in my poetry notebook. A friend from school brought it for me to read and I fell in love with it. And this was in 1991. A few of the versus in the version I have are different from the one posted here. Such as second verse, in the version I have says, "I must be bad, this lesson Ive learned, for I am covered, with cigarette burns". Anyone else ever heard this version? Feel free to steal that line too Misty. I am so relieved to see that I am not the only one who knows Misty Nicole Ramsey is a fraud. It pissed me off when I saw she was claiming to be the author. Because I had it memorized 5 years before the date all the sites claim she wrote it.
-------
This "Misty Nicole Ramsey" person waw born in 1980 yet she says that she published this while in college in 1996? She is full of it. She is living in Florida and I guess she has not published anything else. What was she ...7-8 years old when she wrote this? Oprah would have had her as a guest if this was true.HA! Hey, Misty don't get bent but we've got your number! Please show us some of your other works. She does do a good "Black Velvet".

To whom it may concern... I am nearly 40yrs old. It does not matter who in fact wrote this poem but what the words say should be imprinted on your soles. I had a writing assignment in the sixth grade in which we were to write a poem and our teacher would send it in to a publishing company and have a poem book made up to give to our families for Christmas. Only a few that were submitted got into that book. The one that I wrote with a friend did not make it due to the graphic nature of out words. In fear that there would be an ongoing investigation our teacher suggested we not sign our names. Some of what was written in our poem was true and some words were put in for the rhyming effect. Our poem started out just the same as this one and ended just the same as well.. Even if Misty Nichole Ramsey read the other poem, and it touched her enough to re-write it the way it is now.. let her have it! She owns it! She did a great job on touching the hearts of others with her words that a sixth grader couldn't. I know in my heart that the poem we submitted as unknown many many many years ago got around and came to this! Good job Misty for making this a great work of art and getting it out that Child abuse IS real!
the poem that we wrote in 1985 in Burien, Washington near a bar that our parents frequented often named Charlie Macs Bar. It went like this:
My name is Misty
I am 3
My eyes are swollen
I cannot see
It hurts me bad to know
Mom and dad hate me so
They think I'm an expensive joke
They need money for acid and coke
Quiet now I hear a car
Daddy is back from Charlies bar
I lean my head against the wall
And pray to God to end it all
My name is Misty
I was 3 the day my daddy murdered me.
Misty Nichole Ramsey,
Thank you for taking the time and dedication on making this poem touch the hearts of many! Well wishes your way. God Bless!

Hey misty first of all you would know if you did your homework that to copyright something it shows up even on the internet. This is why I started paying the money (now $35 to submit a collection of literary works) to the Library of Congress. I had someone on youtube take my lyrics/song and use it with a horrible video. I was able to produce my copyright paperwork to Google and the person's video's were removed. These days, people will copy and paste and pass around and before you know it, they don't include the author's name. I'm going to look up "Footprints in the Sand" to see if they ever found out who the author was...did someone take the author's name off to make money?? I guess the real author did not copyright it.
-------
Actually, the writer was Misty's sister. This was in my sister's English book when she was in high school in 1993. My sister read it to all of us and I was just in middle school and this has stuck with me all these years. I wrote my own poem about this Misty that touched me so many years ago and just came upon my poem today. I thought that since everything is on the Internet these days that maybe this was too. And sure enough, here it is. So, Misty Ramsey, I know you did not write this. Misty died at age three. Her sister wanted people to know her story.
-------
My bestfriend read me this poem when we were in 7th grade. That was in 1989. So whatever.

-------
There is another poem similar suposedly written by my 14year old sister. Also i know someone today who is claiming she wrote it in school and won a poetry contest for it.
-------
I posted this page to Facebook just because it is close to what I remember from when I was in school
