Poem Number 170
Crocodile

Commentary:
He speaks
as a deity would speak:

with words of insight, liberation, and compassion

Mostly, he teases

He is laughter

As we meet
At a crosswalk

The tiny bald head
Barely visible

Above the steering wheel
Of an ancient Ford mercury

He waves me through
grinning

Later
I tell him how

I emptied my clothes
Closets for the nuns

He giggles:
Tomorrow what will you wear?

Uproarious Bodhisattva

I am devoted

Caught in the jaws
Of crazy wisdom

Surrendering
To tremendous consequences

For him I wish the nothing
Of everything

Things as they are

~Dedicated to Lama Tashi Namgyal~

-------
Bodhisattva is a being who compassionaltely refrains from entering nirvana in order to save others and is worshipped as a diety in Mahayana Buddhism. For more information go to this link (http://www.c-level.com/bodhi/) and you will find in verse the 37 practices of a Bodhisattva :) Namaste
