Poem Number 206
Ode to a Type Louse

Commentary:
Here's another one from the print shop. We used to set type, one letter at a time. If it got spilled, we said it was "pied". When things went wrong, it was because we had a type louse in the shop.
.
O, tiny unseen creature, rare,
Within my pressroom lurking there,
'tis you who causes time to fly
And type to spill and forms to pi,
The "workups" on the press, no doubt
And gears and bearings that wear out.
Oh, would some power the giftie gi'e us
A spray like DDT to free us.
...BR (with apologies to Robert Burns)
