Poem Number 986
Infernal Finale

Commentary:
Infernal Finale

See what's behind the pretty face
Of mother nature. What disgrace
She has for men who oft with haste
Do ravage earth, lay land to waste

See what's behind her sweet facade;
What evil's veiled beneath the broad
Expanse of green I dare to trod
Upon so carelessly. How odd

The quiet is before the storm
'Fore roiling, boiling monsters form
To plunder man and leave forlorn
This land from which we all are born

How odd it is to see one's fate
How clearly hindsight comes too late
How many men will die to sate
Earth's vengeful hunger? We await

While rolling hills of lava roll,
Men, beasts, and plants, now glowing coal
Charred flesh to feed the liquid troll
Please, Lord, have mercy on my soul

Volcanic ash, the air I breathe
Heart, lungs, and veins distend, blood seethes
All that i feel, all that i see,
Is mother earth consuming me
