Poem Number 984
Butterfly Kisses And Apple Pie Beds
_______________

Commentary:
When through the open window pours the night
And little ones so spent do dreamward go
Their fresh and tender lips upon my cheek
Remind me of a time I cherish so

A time when once my bed seemed vastly wide
My little feet tucked neatly in the sheets
When Papa would with tenderness replay
The ritual that was my special treat

With hands so large and strong he'd tuck me tight
No matter how I fought he'd always win
And then when at his mercy I did lay
His lashes he would stroke upon my skin

These moments I did put away and keep
That I may once again enjoy them so
And now that I have young ones of my own
They'll be the part of Papa they will know

Butterfly kisses and apple pie beds
Mementos golden from another time
Now and again brought out and dusted off
To share their uniqueness with mine

Ah, tears in my eyes. The continuity of family.

Oops. I forgot to say. I like the words, "Do dreaming go."
