Poem Number 983
When I Get In The Way
_______________
Someone pushes me
Commentary:
'Twas after noon one summer day
When both my young ones out to play
Did skip and bounce their merry way
Around the sun baked lawn
Now Andrea, my eldest child
By all appearances seems mild
But Dee, my hurricane, is wild
And likes to show her brawn
For height and speed they did compete
To see which had the better feet
They kept no score yet chose to cheat
While I sat looking on
My eldest stopped to ponder ants
They may assassinate by dance
Her sibling with a sidelong glance
Did answer with a yawn
Then hopped around in circles three
And having stomped all she could see
She cried aloud her victory,
"It's okay now, they're gone!"
So mortified, my eldest glared
With furrowed brow and nostrils flared
She rammed her sister and declared,
"It's over, and I won!"
Now that was when she noticed me
And stormed away quite angrily
My face I hid lest she would see
The grin my eyes had drawn
But Dee did catch me doing so
And thus it came, the final blow
She laughed out loud, gave me to know
The roguish imp I'd spawned
From somewhere deep my laughter rose
To join my Dee's; lost all repose
And lost my footing in the throes
Of humor taken wrong
This sprout of mine, not forty pounds
Had brought me roaring to the ground
Her sister huddled, made a sound
Like she'd been stomped upon
Of course, by then, I'd no repeal
Her pain was so intensely real
So I instructed her with zeal
To lash me hard and long
And there between her lips a smile,
It tried so hard to break free while
She fought it back; A valiant trial
she gave, but lost - or won
Now ever since that summer day
If Andrea sets out to play
With Dee and I get in the way,
In haste they take me on
nakedowl
