Poem Number 1027
too much time

Commentary:
when i was just a little girl
without the dolls, but with the curls,
i'd sit before the mirror and wonder
about this world - it was so asunder
between the bombs & generations fighting
the domestic scene was also frightening
I gazed at the eyes that looked back and thought
how would they appear after seeing what time wrought
how could i know in my youthful innocence
all the damage and joy and surprises I've seen since
so i made a promise to myself, as only a child might
that whatever came along to see, i would hold my sight
