Poem Number 1549
the badge
the dust and rain settled while the search had been begun
the fire was not as hot as it had it been before
my dad had not been found
but his badge was 344
it was melted into a lady's purse
the DEA found it on floor 54
the lady lived right next door
she was our nanny years before
our dad was gone in the dust and the rain
he saved who he saved forever
our nanny wept as she hear the pipes
and said thank God for Badge 344
and she kissed her husband
Badge 444
