Poem Number 7521
Circus sideshow

Commentary:
Behind the curtian
ringmaster watches
watery eyes
glazed over
hungry.
Booming voice
invocations covered in glitter
feathers and all the trappings
of no normal life.
Illusions dressed for the opera
singing and dancing
above skitterish primadonna dogs
waiting their turn
to amuse
like a talking head
stranded on some black top.
Lopsided perspective
the circus becomes the sideshow
performers melting
becomming a garish nightmear
the kind you wake up from
bathed in sweat and fear.
Nothing to keep it from infecting your head,
eating with barks and wistles
and other jarring things.
Clowns
wearing sudo souls in grease paint
making happy or sad statements
fumbling and running
thoughts on the loose
stuck somewhere between
the introduction to a lion tamer
who knows what
bad breath from the belly of a beast
really smells like.
Human birds
wave and bend over head
no feathers to catch if they fall
only skin tight wrappings
that end in sheer illusion
capped off with slippers
taken from dead ballerinas
that failed to make the grade
for the high society of performance.
Insecurities in abundance
at the circus side show.
One night only
three nights only
a limited run
a chance to see a twist
on reality
only to be burried
along with all the stories of the fantasic.
And when the night ends
the pale footsteps
of the last gawker
disapearing through
the gates of the circus sideshow
fading into darkness
the circus sideshow
waits for you
wanting to come where you live
wants to tell you a story
while devouring your eyes
and eating your money.
Yes, it's waiting,
come one
come all
to the circus side show
where there is room for one more
always room
in the world that doesn't know
what normal looks like anymore
not that it ever did.

This is, by far, my favorite of your pieces Ive seen thus far.
Forget Barnum & Bailey. I'm going to this Bosch & Bruegel circus.

I humbly thank you. I have been trying to write from a visual expressive state lately, trying to do the same thing I do when I sit with any other art media, I just try to let go and see where it takes me.
I know that's hit and miss, but I do believe that it's possible to find threads that pull and take you places.
I'm happy this worked.
