Poem Number 7509
Chickens

Commentary:
Peep
Peep
cheep
cheep
feathers
some colored
other than white.
Lay me an egg
oh chicken of mine!
To breakfast
or lunch
so that I can dine!
Chickens
in shades of this and that!
Pecking at the dirt
looking for something
to eat.
Chickens
and more chickens
strange birds
feathers
and beak!
Oh foul so fine!
No eggs say you!
Fine.
On you then will I dine.
And drink some fancy
white wine.
Oh chickens
sweet chicken
with some sauce to make
you taste like somthing
other than chicken.
----
very silly I know, but how many poems have been written in honor of a bird that people eat so much of?
-------
Chickens are an irresistible muse for many comedians, writers, and photographers. some notable recent examples:
The NPR show 'This American Life' does a yearly special, titled 'Poultry-Slam', in which the entire episode is devoted to chicken stories.

My friend james' father, who is a well-known photographer in NY , published a Chicken Calendar a few years ago, and it was wildly successful. So successful, that it surprised both James' dad and the publisher.
They did not realize that there is so much latent chicken enthusiasm out there.

"Know Your Chicken" is arguably Cibo Matto's most famous song.

Oh yes! The noble bird
of feather and beak
grant us some eggs...:)
That is so awesome that your friend's father did a Chicken Calander. That is wonderful actually :)
They really are funny to watch, and that sound, oh the sound of a chicken clucking, there is something equally inviting to emulate the sound..on several occasions I have done just that, simply because I on occasion need to just cluck like a chicken.
My friends understand and tend to giggle at the sounds I make, and I like that. :)

its all fun and games till someone loses a trachea. never ever attempt teasing an angry crowd of chickens with a paper towel tube.

I promise not to tease any crowd of chickens with a paper towel tube any time ever...the chickens have nothing to fear from me. KFC maybe, but not me.
