Poem Number 1422
The fire scorched earth
Dark sentinels stand alone
Silent reminders
Commentary:
in fire-scorched earth
dark sentinels stand alone
only silence lives.......Loramundo

Scorched cedars recall
lightning strikes, a fire, death
two centuries past.
~~~~~
Your poem reminded me of the woods behind my house. Every couple hundred feet you can find a burnt-out tree, hollowed sometimes, or a standing slab with all its outside charred and weathered. There was a big storm around 1800, lightning started a fire. There's also one intact log there -- started to burn at the top but then it must have blown over, so much of it is still there, slowly crumbling into acid red soil only salal could love. There's gotta be a haiku image in that tree somewhere ... maybe I should have The Collective ferret it out. Anyway, that's what you got me thinking about. Cheers. --eritain
Lush green foliage grows
Amongst the burnt offerings
Of trees laid to rest .......m4r
Nice! Another take:
~The rest were half-taken,
~half left -- this one stayed back, to
~give itself away.
