Poem Number 1180
Don't want to go back
Too afraid it will disturb
Wonderful mem'ries...
Commentary:
I wrote this because I'm off to my home country soon, being away for 25yrs.. I am looking forward to the trip, but I'm not looking forward to seeing the changes that have taken place where I grew up.. strange how memories become so precious to us.. they can be so fragile..alice..
-------
Alice: Know where you're coming from. I went to school for 8 years in
a wonderful 3 room schoolhouse (plus play room, not gym) which has long
since been centralized and torn down. In my memories I still see it at
Halloween with some farmers hay wagon sitting on top. Never did know how
they got it down. May you have a wonderful, safe trip and make many
new memories.--GrandmaThing--We'll surely miss you and your words. May
you take love along.
-------
Alice, could we know where 'home country' is? I went back to my childhood home
in Texas once with my parents. Gone just about the same time. We turned up the
lane to our place and found that the house was now covered up with wheat. There
were some people working out there and one was the son of a dear neighbor from those
days. He took us to his parents' home and we had a wonderful reunion with them. It
wouldn't have happened if we hadn't let the present disturb wonderful mem'ries. Go
fearlessly, Girl!!! Lida Jo
-------
Sorry to interrupt, but from where in that big state do you come Lida Jo if I may ask? I am from Tyler which is about 85 miles east of Dallas and I will actually be moving from Florida to the big "D" very soon. (Alice, I too share some of the feelings in your haiku) -thayne

I grew up around the Lubbock/Amarillo area, Thayne. Daddy was a dryland farmer in the late 30's/early 40's.
I was 9 when we moved to an oil town near Amarillo. Lida Jo

To have wonderful memories, what a blessing indeed. Sorry to see you
going Alice. I hope things will be better than you anticipate. Will
we not see you here again? If so how sad for us. Take care.
