Poem Number 2108
- December 28, 2006 -
Commentary:
fresh skidder track
a no-man's land strewn with
wooden corpses
front-end loader
a pair of workman's gloves
lay on the seat
a small rise
and i find my quarry
virgin forest
like a deer
i vanish into
silent woods
east-northeast
or so my compass
assures me
how marvelous -
terra incognita
so close to home!
stoic boulders
am i the first ever
to behold them?
a thick stand
of hemlock saplings
to push through
over there
a steep hill to climb
new heading
simple wonders
these homely wooded knobs
nourish my soul
all too soon
the old railroad grade
takes me home
one glance back
and a thought - next time,
south-southeast

a cool exploration. can smell the trees and fresh air :)
