pedal to petal
. engine cuts and cuts for half a mile

I like the humor in the last line. It kind of takes you by surprise.

drowned by alarm clock

This one speaks to all my young life on the farm and all my own working life, eritain. We were a family of sleepy heads and not one of us could awaken without a LOUD alarm.
