(I was privileged to see the guitarist John Scofield perform at a pub in Northampton MA one snowy winter night some time back. This man who's played with giants like Miles Davis, Larry Coryell, and Herbie Hancock quietly entered through the front door like any other patron, carrying his own guitar, and wearing an overcoat that had seen better days. A couple of college kids saw and recognized him. They nudged one another & whispered none too quietly, "Hey, it's him! That's Sco!" Sco heard them and thought they were hailing him, so he smiled and called back, "Hey, fellas!" Overcome with shyness, they looked away and didn't answer. Sco just sort of slumped a little, his smile faded, and he dropped his eyes and maneuvered around the waitresses to the band room downstairs. A normal guy denied a normal life by his own notoriety........RAS)

It was an AWESOME concert, btw :-)

troubador--good word ras. thanks for your story. it reminds me of a night sugar blue, a blues harmonica player, say be me at a club--sorting out his case of instuments. he was amazing as was the evening.
i think it's cool that many of my contributions get a response about jazz though that's rarely what i'm writing about. i find it interesting when the responses go different places. i guess there are a lot of jazz fans in this room. a local jazz club here has live music 6 nights a week and poetry on sundays.....david
