Poem Number 3740
just one moment
in the futility of time
comes a killer light straight from the center
come to blind me to forever and ever amen
and no angel-winged caress carries me onward
just hard stone work and restless thought
nothing to bind the wound or heal me
give me one line, even one word
and I'll abide time and sorrow however futile
cover me in shining leaves, in silver mists, in satin snow
hide me in the cleft of the rock, or the hole in the wall, or whatever haven is found
wash me in the water, baptize me in oil, save me from smoldering in the night
let me lie silent in the coolness, counting moons and sheep
just one moment, just one line
