fuck the oil companies

i am outraged about the skyrocketing price of gas and oil in the united states. i am angry that that money is going straight into the pockets of oil and gas company executives and is encouraging americans to consider drilling in alaska rather than limit their consumption of oil.

if you're going to vote, they say, vote with your feet. i have decided instead to vote with my wheels. for the next 30 days, as a trial period which i hope to extend into the next year, i commit myself to the following in protest of the rising cost of oil:

- i will not use my car for 30 days. i will commute by my bicycle and my two feet.
- once per week i will allow myself to carpool, use the bus or hail a taxi, but only once.
- i will keep track of the money i save by not driving and will use it to build a bigger garden in my backyard or buy and plant fruit trees.

to those who think this is "hippie shit", go ahead and honk and laugh and try to run me off the road in your costly SUV which takes over $100 to fill up with gasoline. i predict in the next few years you'll do whatever it takes to get rid of it. enjoy your beer belly and cellulite while ogling my taut thighs and healthy body, fit from daily activity which the human body was meant to perform. zone out to your hip hop and crappy radio music in rush hour while i keep mentally sharp trying to not get killed out there by you and other zombies playing a sadistic cat and mouse game with road cyclists.

enjoy heart disease, lower income and earlier death while i juice my own spinach every morning, continue looking ten years younger than i actually am and can afford to make investments that actually matter.

here's to hippie shit, and here's to you, oil companies. thanks for increasing my quality of life.

Im getting a tankless hot water heater and possibly solar panels for a mixed use property im under contract with. fuguck plastic bags, plastic bottles, recycle dat shit when ya can can but byob to the grocer and reuse as much glas as you can.. natural capitalism kid, bolt like a thoroughly fed thoroughbred , dont just walk off the grid.

yep, agreed with all of the wisdom, brother monk, you're preachin' to this choir! never thought a box of dirt that looks like a sandbox and is filled with my overgrown weeds would be a political statement. no worries on becoming gridless -- i wield technology like a weapon.

thanks for the congrats.. it's a long time coming! i remember way back when, lamenting to you in the beginning stages, and now 5 years later here we be.

permaculture is an intoxicating concept. i'm working on a backyard design.. i have lots to learn about it tho. will likely write more about that as it all unfolds. lots of exciting ideas and getting good and mad tends to fuel them :).

good luck with your solar panels.. it would be nice to experiment with those as well!
