Poem Number 839
In Thought
In marking time among the boxes
Built to manage resources
Called human
A heart beat rumbled
To escape the cage
Caught between what was
And what could be
An isolated rhythm keyed up
and full of spite
while the days passed
numbered by the tally
of prisoner's pages
the beat dissolved
into jabs and slices
at phantoms, once celestial
now coarse and crushed
fertilizer for new growth?
or just another soul consumed
