Poem Number 809
A Homecoming of Sorts
The casket
drapped
as grey
and steely
as the patchy
clouds overhead
little fanfare
accompanied
this last ride
no brass bands
or 21 guns
just a mother
weeping gently
in the corner
of the depot
her eyes red and wolfy
can you see as wolf sees?
can you see as well
famine, war and pestilence
as we sacrifice our sons
for our safety
Commentary:
Stark -- as is the moment you capture.

very simple and good

Excellent poetrait of grief. I think the "can you see as wolf sees?" detracts from an otherwise visible seen.......g-rae
