Poem Number 812
ODE TO A GOOD FRIEND
Commentary:
There is a plot outside my back door
It stands about four foot by eight
A friend of mine that is here no more
A marker simply reads ST
Vine are starting to cover the ground
And thought I try, weeds start to grow
My morbid curiosity, what going on down there
Are there worms wondering in and out? I don’t know
I can’t wait until the vines are dead in the late fall
For then a strange ritual will takes place
With a spade in my hand, I will dig him up just for fun
Clean him up, throw him in the oven for sweet tatter pie.
