Poem Number 800
SHY DOG
Commentary:
I am called Shy Dog, I walk in disgrace.
When I see Spotted Fawn I duck my head
Inside I quiver and there is heat in my face.
My heart leaps inside and I am weak.
I do not understand, I am a great hunter,
and in battle, well known are my deeds.
I have stolen many horses from my enemy
And my horse Moon-Walker is a mighty steed.
Spotted Fawn eyes are soft, when she is around, so am I.
When she is near I mumble and I can not speak.
My tongue swells and my words fall to the ground and die
She just giggles and laughs at me and walks away.
I will play my flute so soft music will catch the wind.
If the mountain echoes my song, perhaps she will understand.
I will play the music that is in my heart when she is near.
I dream she hears my song and she will smile and take my hand.
