Poem Number 796
BAR C BOYS
Commentary:
Me and some of the Bar C boys went to town
We wanted some of them Saturday night joys
A bath was in order before them lady folks were around
We had been three months on the trail chasing cows.
Well a couple of the boys headed straight to the bar
But, Jim and I headed for a bath down at Flow’s
Mable took and wash our dirty, stinking cloths
And our backs got scrubbed by sweet little Rose.
Well, we got dressed and went down to the bar
Our clean cloths still warm from the drying fire
We all got drinking, Maybe I did go a little far
Next thing I knew Bill wanted to put out my lights.
I turned around and hit Bill real hard right in the jaw
I reckon that was about the silliest thing I could ever do
Oh! I weren’t afraid of Bill, I don’t reckon he was that mean
But I done clean forgot Bill had a jaw full of chew.
