Poem Number 792
WRANGLERS PRAYER
Commentary:
WRANGLERS PRAYER
Thank you GOD for riding with this old wrangler today
Thanks for taking care of that onry old steer,
and I know that it was you that helped with them strays
All in all GOD, I would say you gave me a really good day.
Thank you for the good grass and the watering hole
Thanks for this camp I made under this willow tree
Thanks again for Old Blue and the mountains high.
LORD, thanks for the beauty for my old eyes to see.
If'ing you ain't too busy won't YOU sit and stay awhile
Share my night fire and maybe listen as I sing some songs.
We can listen to the old hoot owl and share a laugh or a smile.
And GOD thanks you for the bacon, hardtack and this bag of beans.
Well next week the boys and I will head them up the trail.
I ask you give us a good safe trip and a generous buyer.
Mean time thank you for these warm blankets and my saddle
Thank you for the North Star to guide me and my warm fire.
GOD there one more thing I would ask of you, if'ing I can be that bold
Would you ride night watch and keep me safe until morning.
I don't much like being out here alone, if the truth were told.
So if I die before the morning light, take me with you when you go.

i've read many natives societies said a thankyou prayer like this each day. it's like counting our blessings, isn't it? gratefulness is good, i think the universe listens and enriches us further.
