Poem Number 665
Sometimes Shadows Dance

Commentary:
where did my shadow go?

it has been with me for so long
my companion by day
lost in the crowd when the sun
goes down

this sunshine runs clean through me now
though I were made of glass
I could not bend a ray
of light

crystal dreams from the still of night
refract starlight into rays of dust
that settle like fireflies upon my bed
and dance beneath the covers
on into my head
now twinkling in my eyes as motes of joy

where did my shadow go?

does it sleep now with the sun
while I lie here in the night
making love to pretty stardust giggling softly in my bed?

I see my shadow dancing in the streetlights
firefly halo about its head
while the moon hides slyly behind a cloud
sneaking peeks and smiling
with a teardrop in his eye

I smile back and close the blinds
and slip beneath the covers
to make the stardust giggle louder

in the street, the lights dim then go out

outside, my shadow dances with the stars
