Poem Number 8971
Two plus two
lips and lips
added up to more
than I intended
when butting chin to chin
with you, behind
the high school auditorium. I thought,
perhaps your kiss
would transform me
into something more womanly
than a class ring
wrapped with string,
and braces.
All curvaceous hips
and jutting breasts
my racing mind imagined;
but all I got
from this inarticulate
sophmore lunchbreak embrace
was cold sores
and mononucleosis.
Commentary:
