Poem Number 23277
a landscape
Commentary:
prologue
it's nice when no one is talking.
1.
in your backyard a bright light,
filling a fence
and comforting, secure.
from such, a pixel of this picture
is born:
a sight line cut out and framed
by this window i speculate from.
broad, brown, flat and hazy;
some Horse Heaven hills break it up a little,
but the straight lines
are more inviting.
the long, gradual angles.
a thousand feet up, miles away;
the heat oozes and fights,
pulls and struggles back into the sky,
following the sun falling
back over the ocean that i can't see
out of the window i speculate,
but it is the pacific, after all,
and a fantasy.
purple pushes through blue subtle,
and blood red is the color of the screaming exhaust
behind the sun;
after a while, suddenly quick, it's all done.
and glimmer appears on the picture,
all through the valley,
white, yellow, and lavender,
like the light that just fell down is behind
a page of brown heavy paper
and is fighting to fill up the dusk
through a million pinholes.
in your backyard a bright light comes to me,
by itself,
and as a piece of a thin, false Milky Way,
into this window, into this frame,
to me.
epilogue
and in the half-cool of the late evening,
the next part is
i think of who you are.

..i don't remember how to add line breaks..
