Poem Number 23108
embers
Commentary:
i dream of the night sky,
mottled orange with the smoke haze
of a scalding hot day.
high up, tiki lights are strung
out amongst the faraway houses,
out towards the east.
i imagine the street
is silent. outside, a dog
barks, twice. then silence.
the stillness is cool,
the comfort of a light sheet
worn on those restless summer nights.
i yearn for the night sky
again, to watch the grey airships
precess and sprawl with the wind.
i yearn for the teasing breeze
taunting relief from a
relentless sun
i yearn for the silence
the happy calm, the safety,
the absence of harm.
i imagine a dead streetlamp,
visible from the window,
blink, and wink into brightness.

This is like looking into ones longing for a better place or time.
And though the poem pushes visions of a wonderful, almost enchanted place, the readers mind seems to hang onto the longing
and so reading of this poem carries a melancholy feel.
Strange how this poem plays your emotions. Well done.

this is a good read, i like "precess and sprawl into the wind," and "blink, and wink into brightness." very visual.
