Poem Number 23053
Genesis Redux
Commentary:
The sun marks the hours
as the day wanes and ebbs;
business deals are confirmed,
sealed, money changes hands,
tradesmen offer their goods for sale,
the housewife barters for the day's dinner,
children play in the street,
chasing one another,
their laughter echoing,
young men jostle one another,
talking, bragging of exploits.
Time stops...suspended
in a burst of shrapnel,
Screams rend the air,
the wounded fall,
blood streams from
gaping flesh into the
hungry ground.
Your brother's blood calls to me from the ground...

Sorry about that--there should be a double space between "hungry ground" and "your brother's blood calls to me from the ground.." and the last line should be italicized or in quotes...JFC

Sounds like a scene from Baghdad. Very poignant - Tom
