muted

born in second gear,
revving, hot, fast.
pushing the redline.
grew up in second gear.
burning too much oil,
both kinds;
taking the turns with
wild predictability,
sullen sincerity.
living in second gear.
tires are still good.
slamming slow fists
into mother pavement,
yeah, an easy punch
to pull.
