Poem Number 22978
dying rain
Commentary:
i’d forgotten how greedy the rain can be.
drinking my skin like a man dying from thirst
as if the rain itself understands it is dying.
here on this immense quiet land that dreamt itself.
`
while we waited for the scientists
–who’ve separated the tree from branch-
to tell us the land is sick,
and time is sort against our clock
from a culture wanting to live forever, NOW!:
`
time has only ever been
this soft rain and one lone bird
who's song doesn't
wait for the scientists to tell it,
that the world has gone deaf.
