Poem Number 22976
she comes to me as i walk into the desert
---raul

Commentary:
no one on the christmas train except
lonely old men,
no place to go but themselves
while this old land moves by, this harsh land
with its sympathetic gum trees.
where men walk into the desert
looking for love
`
she comes to me with tears or laughter
asking for the first kiss again
the trust of the first kiss
does she think i'm a liar?
am i a liar?
`
how can i be when she
stretches out for me over this land
over this earth
she holds my heart like the wind
`
but my mind not driven by emotion
plays with love like someone
with too many clothes
`
so forgive me in advance
for i cannot promise
what my mind does not understand.
