Poem Number 22917
Garden of the Gods
Commentary:
That night we snuck out of the camp grounds
darkness coming
darkness past
a whispered breeze took us
up the dirt path
a ramble through the dark
your hand warm
in mine
the other brushing my skin
I crawl for you
we climbed to the highest rock
that overlooked the garden, silhouette trees, and an absent moon
and breathed in the last of August
by way of kiss
and so I missed a shooting star
all for the calming crash of your lips
a calm that only comes once a year
but for the perfect night
I waited two
just to get that close to you.
