Lives

The tortoise has one long life.
A cat needs nine solid lives.
So many risks it takes.
I require a mere three lives.
It takes one lifetime to learn
from errors of my trials
Another life to apply
all these aquired lessons
of the first error era
in the next flawless period
of achievement for mankind
and myself if you don't mind
I will then be ready for
my third life to retire in

Commentary:
Very thoughtful. Me, I need four lives. And I won't get the fourth. I'll die before that. Ask me why I need four.
-------
Thank you anon. Now you piqued my interest and poked my curiosity; why do you need 4 lives? ~ Jim
-------
Jim, it's something of a riddle. The answer may be too simple but I'll post it soon. How bout you? How many lives do you need?

Anon, I need 3 lives, as the poem explains. I asked you about your lives, because you invited us to ask ~ Jim
-------
Jim, in the first place, you never retire from life. Retire from what, your job. I would need a fourth life to catch up on all the things I didn't experience in the first three. There is never enough life.
