Poem Number 21906
i wanted charles ives played at our wedding
But I didn't have his number.
Commentary:
standing
at the window
looking at Venus out
watching the stars
wink out
one by one
listening to laughter
out in the corridor
Doppler-like
drifting off
into the cool hush
of the air conditioning system
listening to some
poor man
shouting outside
in the street below
this woman walks past him
and stares at the man
hearing a car
drift by
a blast of the horn
falls upon the
double-glazed glass
like soft rain
hearing doors shut
out in the corridor
a vacuum cleaner
rumbles by outside
and then again:
quiet...
Venus is outside, renewed
yearning for a cuttlebone and
a lovebird
clouds change from
brown to snow white
from the reflection of an
invisible moon
i shut my eyes
