forgiveness burns
inky words on crispy
molten pages
and my spirit wiggles
breaking the shell
of hatred
of denial
and protection
that has formed there
for so long
like a baby bird
poking thru the darkness
looking for the light
i watch three stories
float up the chimney
nothing but smoke now
and shriveled ashes
in the fireplace
finally free
of the weight
my wet wings unfold
and I am hungry
for life
