Poem Number 18519
My life's drawing closer to an end,
And the day's a little colder...
All I wanted, was a friend,
All I got was the cold shoulder
Throughout my life.
What makes me so different from you?
Don't you see that my tears fall
Like yours do?
Don't you hear me crying out in pain,
"Please, God, don't let me be born again."
--L. S. Maynard
Commentary:
It's truely hard to imagine anyone going through life with no friend but I know for some that is true. ~Linda

This poem borders on good but it has a serious flaw. That last line. What on earth does it mean? Born again as a Christian, reincarnated-probably what the person speaking means is that he/she doesn't want to go around again in the same lonely type life. However, so many people regard "born again" to mean becoming a Christian and accepting a life of joy that this should be the very thing the speaker wants. And that's just what you mean as a poet. If the person wanted to be "born again" what a joyous difference it would make! I like that interpretated. The person is not happy because they have no wish to be "born again".
