Poem Number 17123
A Summer Song
in sharply whispered voice
announces she is near,
in her hand --
a hot torturous vice.
Commentary:
"A summer Song"
`
Thou singest summer unto me
When foliage again adorns the tree
There I can sit in the shade
And contemplate on creation made.
`
The vast nature all around
Even to dry grass upon the ground
Have a purpose that is sure;
On which oft is dreamed folklore.
`
(There's a story about the Thistle
That would make you want to whistle
As to its prickly might
Which defended the Scot's in plight.)
`
When I was but a young maid
In the clothes my dear mother made
I ran the fields in joyful glee
With the wind in my face, I felt free.
`
I loved to dip in a natural pool
Where water's blue and nicely cool
Cut the water with strongly stroke
Or float on my back, seeing clouds like smoke.
`
Sun's heat dried wet droplets on my skin
As nakedly I sunbathed my body not-too-thin.
Happy I was to climb a sprawling tree
And wonder what my future would be.
`
A family picnic was always a delight
Under shady tree out of sun's direct light
Dining on meats, salads, made wonderful feast
Finishing on sweet desert or icecream at least.
`
Though harsh can be Summer's song
She can also serenade pleasantries along
Skimming in sail-boat on ocean's waves
Or experiencing cool relief in earth's caves.
`
Sitting on the porch drinking lemonade ice
Feeling the evening breeze is really nice
When the day's heat has been scorching hot;
Summer has pleasantries, does she not?

What a beautiful poetic song in natural rhyme. If I did not see 'ice cream' in it, I would have thought someone pinched Robert Burns and anglicized it! = Abe

oh I wish.... lol... I did try to capture the older times poets style, but the essence is my own making.( and I've never swam in the nude lol, I'm too bashful!)
Thank you for your wonderful compliment of liking my poem to someone so far above my capabilities, I'm truly in awe of your comment. ~ audee

P.S. I'm not yet familiar with Robert Burn's poetry, I'm a late comer to this art. ~ audee

Audee with this poem you again brought sunshine to my day, delightful...cem

Good morning audee I finally figured out the time difference....cem
-------
Good afternoon cem, yes it's my morning now 7.20am (that is practically 4.20pm Seattle time - without the daylight saving), so I don't know just where you are, but that will clue you up on time, depending on where you are.
( Alice is 2 hours ahead of me and when it's daylight saving there, she then is 3 hours ahead, as we don't have the daylight saving here in the west of Aust.
May I say cem, you make my day with your kind comments, thank you for always being so supportive, you keep me writing. :-)
Thanks! ~ audee

oh, cem , i'm sorry, lol, you probably were referring to seasonal difference, (I'm not properly awake it seems)yes, you are going into winter and we into summer. ~ audee
-------
No audee I was talking time, I had already figured out the season difference...cem

This is delightful in rhyme and rhythm-Jane
