Poem Number 16634
Soon this heart that once
fast beating like a birds,
carelessly laughed and loved,
Will slow and become dull
No longer able to sing at dawn
Or surge at midnight
It will sit quietly and remember
Remember how it used to smile at nothing
Needed no reason to caress
Except for the joy of touching
Murmured at the sighs of love
On the lifting seas of desire
Then ache interminably at its end
~
Winter now stands waiting, to claim
This heart so carelessly beating
Grey mist hovers backstage
Soon to engulf this last performance
Sitting now, hoping on the soft rise of the moon
and the sweet ardours of past loves
To smile one more time at nothing
Then be content to nestle
In the wide arms of acceptance
~Alice~
