Poem Number 16219
STREET SPRING
---Julia Winograd

---(posted by Bud)
I know it's spring
---J.V.
the young muscled bald guy
---J.V.
who sits outside the coffeehouse
---J.V.
brought out his 2 baby snakes to play in his lap
---J.V.
and be petted by girls
---J.V.

---.
Spring winds knock the skirts up flowers;
---J.V.
every daffodil is Marilyn Monroe.
---.
Dandelions break thru cracks in sidewalks
---J.V.
the city promised to fix
---J.V.
and in crackhouses and projects
---J.V.
where junkies fix
---J.V.
and in cracks in the mirror where the fix is in.
---J.V.

---.
I know it's spring,
---J.V.
after all that rain
---J.V.
tattoo roses blossom on skin
---J.V.
And everyone litters smiles
---J.V.
with no civic responsibilities,
---J.V.
ignoring disposable smile receptacles.
---J.V.

---.
In spring there are no strangers
---J.V.
but we don't talk much anyway,
---J.V.
we don't seem to need words.
---Julia Vinograd

Commentary:
This poem appeared in the June 2000 issue of "Street Spirit", a publication of the American Friends Committee. I bought the Paper off a homeless man, for $1.00. - Bud
-------
Correct Author name: Julia Vinograd, not 'Winograd'. - Bud
-------
How many think it's a good poem; how mamy believe I wasted my dollar? - Bud
-------
Very thought provoking poem. That alone is worth your purchase, and more. = Moe
-------
I think the reality of the real world is firmly expressed in this piece. Sometimes reality may not be the most beautiful thing to look at, but It does provide knowledge in truth. Something that can only be taught by Reality. Silhouette
