Poem Number 15237
Train Ride to Memphis
Commentary:
Everyday seems harder.
My head down, wind
stripping my integrity,
I can't bring myself
to look others in the eye.
-------
I'm so tired, tired
of trying to hold things
together, of being strong.
You reach and grab out for me,
But I feel myself slipping.
-------
I can't remember how things
got the way they are now.
Young suddenly saddled with
desperation and a resentment
of the future.
-------
Look at me, please.
My hands ache, they are no
stronger then yours.
Perhaps I should just quit
and catch the next
Train ride to Memphis.
