Commentary:
However easily
you have assumed
this graceless
winter habit,
you must know that
it does not become you--
you, of the once-warm
blood, the eyes like
embers that would lower
to no one,
the open challenge
in your smile--
and yet here you sit
dreaming
like one lost, cold,
blue frost upon your
lips and in your
extinguished gaze.
It is *life* you cheat
with your still hands,
not death,
to go down so gentle
into the starless twilight
where none rest but all sleep.
And I, watching you fall,
am left frozen myself,
chilled to the bone
and bitterly shaken
to know that you
(whom I have called my
dearest enemy), even you
have bowed out
of the Game,
out of the running,
out of the fight
that was
your very life,
and all your glory.

I enjoyed this, having known the concept of one's dearest enemy. Someone who is closer sometimes than any friend, and yet challenges you more than any teacher. I liked the way you ended it.

Very wonderfull poem. Filled with emotion. Kinda reminds me of...
"Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
