Poem Number 12019
with my woven hands i pick
the colour of the sky
the scent of see
king
lavendershade
& embrace the sun
humming sits at the loom
~
Anansi, shuttling to and fro
Stretches her doiley
on scented stem
And spend her hours
in sunlight bathing
Attentive to the strand
layed loosely in her hand
~
while eight delicate limbs dance
the dearly deadly thread
from blade to blade
in
visible creation
tamed by dandilion fluff
like dragonflies weaving the light.
~
Menu spelled in frantic wingbeat
Entre, bug cuisine
Wasp or hopper
or morselly moth
stuck to trampoline
Then cut, wrapped, hung to cure
Anansi mending net
Commentary:
fallon, i should have known this was you... :-)
with your stanza you pick up my motif, - i like it.
there was something about anansie... who is anansie?
and... doiley??? (sorry, i don't have my webster's
here...) ok, let's see if i can come up with another
stanza today... (rhia)

Beautiful! ~Serif

To me "doiley" or sometimes spelt "doyley" is the smaller piece of cloth with fancey work on it, or just crocheted around. Something bigger might be a centre piece or larger still, might be a table cloth of sorts. 'a'
-------
your turn fallon... :-) oh i love summer! (rhia)
-------
No time to write now , Rhia, but thanks for the invitation. Anansi, was the spider woman of southwest native american lore. A doily is just as 'a' describes, a small lacy table decoration, often set under a vase. My gram used to make them. i wonder if she was Anansi?...fallon

Lovely, original poem, guys.
Oddly enough, fallon, I always thought Anansi was a spider *man* from *African* folklore (West African, I believe...not sure). But I could be wrong. :)

My grandmother made doilies too. I still have some of them. They are beautiful! It was a common expression in the south for small crocheted dresser or side table scarves. Beautiful, mystical poem. Belle

Sidhe, wouldn't surprise me if you are right. i haven't read that folklore for quite some time. Rhia's first stanza pulled that image out of a dusty and poorly cross-referenced archive (me). Thanks for the correction...fallon
