Poem Number 10803
She has an antique beauty,
weathered smile and grey blue eyes
that sparkle at the new day she has earned.
A patina of life's rubbings shines on her face,
her body now sculpted thin and bent by the years,
still almost moves with that Irish grace.
The tea kettle whistles a jig and scones
dance on the plate in a way she danced
before aging sealed her fate.....not too long ago,
gradually, it came and my Irish mother's life
went from wild to tame but she lives among her flowers,
giving each a caring nod, back to her roots,
on the grand auld Irish sod.
