Poem Number 10685
A Poem about Poetry
Commentary:
At least that’s the assignment,
although after several hours all I have is
oodles of doodles
on the pages of my journal
and not much else,
a word here a fragment there—
peach/blossom/cherry/plum/
each/some/barely/none/
fascinate/communicate—
(but let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth
for his love is sweeter than wine)
and suddenly I realize I know less about you than I do
this poem.

Wow - don't think I ever got anything that good out of a canned poetry assignment. One suggestion - wine is kind of cliche, and it pulled me out of the poem - is there a newer way to say it, something that won't let us gloss over the line because we've heard the comparison too many times before? Just an idea, really like the end, btw. -persephone

An excellent suggestion, persephone, thank you: for his love is sweeter than wild berries filled with the sun ~Chetta
