Poem Number 3633
sweet birch,... tell me your secrets
white-washed in the sun ,whispering
deep secrets hidden in the wind
husky voices in a strong breeze
sharing all with the birds of the air
parchment paper messages sent
pious boughs reaching skyward
gentle shadows providing shelter
we leisurely stop to listen
to mumbled sounds of fondled care
and yet your secrets you will not share
a musicale played for us airily
is it praise on heaven's breathe?
in a feathered canopy up above
or Nature's sonnet on a wreathe?
the rustling quiet now, then
singing in the bright blue sky
intonation to the God of Love
Commentary:
There's something about trees that makes them quite majestic. I leave you with Gerard Manley Hopkins, Binsey Poplars, st. 1.
"My aspens dear, whose airy cages quelled,
Quelled or quenched in leaves the leaping sun,
All felled, felled, are all felled;
Of a fresh and following folded rank
Not spared, not one
That dandled a sandalled
Shadow that swam or sank
On meadow and river and wind-wandering weed-winding bank."

Dan We had to cut down a Linden tree, with its beautiful heart-shaped leaves,I cried, I love trees! annie

Annie, I believe there will be a day of judgement for heartless tree-fellers:( Daniel
-------
yes, this tree was diseased, terrible to see, walked around the house peeking out windows, crying. ;( annie
-------
Dan how could that leisure line be better? annie

I think it is great as it is. It certainly conveys a feeling of enjoyment to me at stopping to listen, ... in almost childlike curiosity trying to understand what the trees are saying to each other.:) Daniel
-------
How about we leisurely lie down to listen? Maybe to rest and look up?annie
-------
The line I really love is "parchment paper messages sent". Excellent! Daniel
-------
Annie, the original line flows easier for me... Daniel
