Poem Number 10831
Scruffy
Commentary:
does this cold washrag make you close your eyes?
I say hang in there and mumble something about help
but I am the help and I am thinking which neighbor
would be home this afternoon with a gun.
or does it help to stoke your head and speak these
foolish words like a younger man by 14 years who feed you
with an eyedropper when another dog ripped away
your mother's life.
But you, always the smallest and most silent are not dead
you hung on and made me think you were sunning here in the grass
where I kneel and try to find away to stop your pain.
And I am the man who has feed you and told you
for these these many years that i am no cat person am feeling sick
and I want to run away or drive my car up a country road
where I can be alone to cry.......Jake

Oh Jake, what can I say. This poem says it all.Don't go up a country road-cry where you are and with no shame. We give our hearts to an animal to tear. My best. Jane
