Poem Number 15517

Red Roses
~
He bestows me with red, red roses;
Heart elated, I feel like the serene white
swan gliding gracefully upon the silvery lake.
My princely admirer, a golden hearted charmer;
good friend known since teen years, genuinely
smiles into my eyes; making known to me he
wishes to become my beau.
Momentarily the sunlight shines white.
Bathed in this flattery, his words falsely lather me
into frothy soft bubbles, as my heart silently speaks
urgent truth of my love for another.
My heart's truth eclipses to stillbirth, the dancing
song being born in there.
Sadly, I feel the broadness of my smile to lips and
eyes, slowly dim.
A bee-like sting jabs in the disappointment of
my heart, as I know I must wound this dear friend
with knowledge.
Gently I embrace him with words, loosening
his rope to the pier of romantic hope, for
our attachment.
Acutely I feel the drift of our parting from the sphere
of romance, as I loose him to the open water again,
in shadowed light of what can not be.
