will set you free

This is not like a bowling alley
Where you let fly the ball
And maybe you miss
But if you hit your mark
Only pins fall down.

I tried to find words for this feeling
The thesaurus says appalled, aghast, dismayed, shocked
And all of it is true, but it is not the whole truth.

I prefer to be succinct, and so
I will say only this:

When you let truth roll heavily from your hand
You hit your mark and more
Now I know
Even the bitterest truth will set one free.
