Poem Number 23149

The Distance (Set in Stone)

Commentary:
What wouldn't I do
to get a little closer to you
and make you understand
the things I can only say with my hands
beautiful adjectives on the tip of my tongue
drenched in fear and refusing to plunge
~
Everything I have ever known
has already been set in Stone
You can't change what he already knows
~
It's not like I had a choice
the weakened tone of your voice
riddled by your slanted lips
dancing around double negatives
the evidence of you in my home
has left me fifty years old and alone
~
Everything that I have ever known
has already been set in Stone
You can't change what he already knows
~
You are now two years gone
who knows where you are?
Memories are all that I have
and my head is pouding
twenty rivers out of existence
at the thought of the distance.

Veru cruel comment regarding romantic novel. Get a life. Nothing to do but tear down beauty?
