Ballad One~

Commentary:

Hey, o, this is one of the interactive poems that was written some while back...thought you might enjoy reading it and seeing what we did do at one time!! *smile* JFC
Ballad One~
His robes a vast swirling of endless purple haze
Aged white curls blend together in maze
Eyes of a bewhildered look, often dazed
He is the wizard of Ssargon
The wizard has returned with his magikal craze.
~~
Powdered faces of death in his suspended time
Had broken his clasp, bailing his mind
In his island hill abode out-twined the choking vine
He is that mad wizard of Ssargon
Danger again in his veins, feared the scraggly find.
~~
And, far and away in the swirling wasteland,
There gathers a small, but valiant scattered band,
A remnant of those who have fallen to this dragon man--
The mad, mad, wizard of Ssargon,
And, hope is found as the heroes stand.
~~~
The first and the best of the heroes tall
Is Heron, the chiefs first son, who saw his father fall
At the Battle of Sacrifice, and has heard the call
To destroy forever the mad wizard of Ssargon.
In his hand he holds the sword, the royal blade of Azure Hall.
~~
Next comes the Barbarian,
Shadowed, silent, outcast from the plain
His love, his life, destoryed in a day
by the forces of the mad wizard of Ssargon
who is next to follow on?
For the Barbarian of Fabral sought to steal the swift blade
Too heavy it was, and his vain hope was dismayed
Heron slept not, pitied, watched him struggle desperate and swayed
Weakened.. shrills bound when he found the mad wizard of Ssargon
Heron rests now, as the power, in the blade will never fade.
~~~
And, Claya, she of the Desperate Isles,
Sits in the dungeon and secretly smiles,
For she has heard of the battle, and despite all his wiles,
She knows that the madman, the wizard of Ssargon
Is doomed, though the hero is sleeping, and distant in miles.
~~~
Whirring in trees, for Ssargon's calling
Serpentine creatures zag and falling
Dust in the webs of ambush searching,
Sounds through the grounds of the mad wizard of Ssargon,
Residuals wake, Heron tastes of the death, and shouts for the life long taking.
~~~
Plenteous in death, worthy men, dured their test,
More sparkling their vests, than all the flown coats of darkness,
The formula made, was but the strength their hearts saved, and true, in the wades of duress,
Though the years, tears their hearts, never prevailed from start, wizardry's Ssargon,
Then go men, then go, let the wailers found know, the blade of Azure, in each vest.
~~
Heron fronts the madness, in his hand the royal blade
Claya, freed by death, rests neath the wintery glade,
He fears not the wizard nor the beckoning shade,
If but he can succeed to quench madness of Ssargon,
And, so for Azure and the Desparate Isles, his vow is made
~
The wizard advances, his minions fall behind,
Instinct and custom decree that only those two will find
True death at the sword or madness clouding the mind,
Face to face, Heron and the wizard of Ssargon,
Heron raises his blade, he stands ready, the last of his kind.
~
The wizard calls his forces of darkness, Heron quails
As madness beclouds his mind--hold, hold, he cannot fail!
He will master the fear, the terror, the pain, in travail
He pierces the madness, the wizard of Ssargon,
The blood of the wizard stains the forest trail.
`
Avenged is Claya of the Desparate Isles, avenged the Azure Hall
No more will madness seethe and evil call
And, light will shine where darkness held in thrall,
Those caught in the web of the wizard of Ssargon.
Sing, Sing of the hero, of Heron the son of Azure Hall.

tis nice. I probably shouldn't post interactives i've been involved in, because they are more like collabs, and they tell a tale of my tangled history with female writers on this site.
But this piece, despite being fantasy, sounds like an old ballad, which I have certain cravings for...

*smile* I like ballads, too!! On another site several of us did a collaborative/interactive piece that eventually grew so large we had to give it its own web site!! It was called "The Wretched State"--there were several of us who contributed to the story of the State of Wretched and its inhabitants--all set in medieval times--with knights and maidens and dragons and a lone griffen!! Lots of fun!! And, a surprisingly good story!
